Digital Video Recorders (DVRs), also knows as Personal Video Recorders (PVRs), are devices that record video in a digital format to a disk drive or other memory medium within a device. The term includes stand-alone set-top boxes, portable media players (PMP) and software for personal computers which enables video capture and playback to and from disk. An interesting article on DRV's can be found on the Wikipedia Digital Video Recorder webpage. The article is a good introduction to the various technologies, however does not cover any of the new DVR products that we are currently evaluating.
Jade Connections intends to publish its first DVR catalog in late July, 2009. Our main focus is with high end devices that can accomdate Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) in capacities (currently) up to 2TB in size (SATA). In addition to the ability to record and playback in various resolutions upto HD (HDMI connectors on most models), most of these also have the ability to connect and communicate over a computer local area network (LAN). The number of features, but current as well as planned, is to extensive to list here. As we get closer to publication of the first catalog, we will post additional details here.
